Ignite - Ravaged by Holy Fire

When a company gets white-hot and really starts to take off, other companies analyze what they’re doing so they can become white hot as well. Sports teams do the same thing. When a team gets hot, other teams study game film and begin to copy what’s working well. That is what we’re doing spiritually - studying those people in the Bible who were spiritually hot so we can become white-hot ourselves. Today we focus on having compassion for those in need.

Sermon Notes
When Moses observed a slavemaster beating a Hebrew slave, he was overwhelmed with compassion for the man, stepped in, and killed the slavemaster. 40 years later God spoke to Moses in the burning bush. He, like Moses, was ravaged with compassion for the Hebrew people. Exodus 3:7
Whether it’s Moses or Martin Luther King Jr. or Billy Graham, just about every white-hot Christian can point to a specific event where they saw first-hand those in need and were ravaged by compassion.
Has your heart ever been ravaged by compassion?
We may feel overwhelmed by the size of the problems and feel like we can’t make much of a difference. People enter this world one life at a time. People suffer one life at a time. People leave this world one life at a time. We help people one at a time.
I challenge you to get out of your isolated, insulated world and see poverty and injustice up close and personal. Allow yourself to be ravaged by compassion. Then do something about it.
Next Steps
- Get out of your sanitized, middle-class lifestyle and expose yourself to people in need by participating in an extension ministry activity.
- Serve with the gifts God has given you. Use the time, talents, resources, and connections you have to help those in need. Fight the temptation to feel the problem is too big and your contribution doesn’t make a difference. You can make a difference.
